privacy policy

Who we are

Our website address is: https://theenthusiastic.com. We’re committed to protecting your privacy and keeping your personal data safe.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string (hash) generated from your email may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you’re using it. You can review their privacy policy here: https://theenthusiastic.com/privacy-policy. After your comment is approved, your profile picture may be publicly visible next to it.

Media

If you upload images to our website, please avoid uploading photos with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Other visitors may be able to download and extract that data from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These cookies last for one year.

When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to check if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded once you close your browser.

After logging in, we use cookies to save your login info and screen preferences. Login cookies last for two days; screen option cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.

If you edit or publish content, an additional cookie may be saved, which simply contains the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day and holds no personal data.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on our site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the original website.

These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content—especially if you’re logged in to those websites.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email for security reasons.

How long we retain your data

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can automatically recognize and approve future comments instead of holding them for moderation.

For users that register on our site (if any), we store the personal information provided in their user profiles. Users can view, edit, or delete their personal data at any time (except usernames). Website admins can also see and manage that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
