Poll Sparks Political Move: “You Shall Have It!” Says Musk

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced the launch of a new political movement dubbed the “America Party,” citing strong public demand for an alternative to the traditional two-party system in the United States.

Referencing a poll he posted on X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote on Saturday:

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.”

While no official filings have yet been published by the Federal Election Commission (FEC), Musk’s post signals a dramatic shift from his previously close alliance with former President Donald Trump.

From Ally to Adversary: Musk’s Fallout With Trump

Musk had previously been one of Trump’s most vocal supporters, even bringing his four-year-old son to the Oval Office and donating $250 million to Trump’s reelection campaign. He was later appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) — a new post-election office created to implement sweeping federal budget cuts.

However, that relationship soured in May when Musk resigned from the administration, citing concerns about Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” — a sweeping tax and spending package recently signed into law. Musk criticized the bill for inflating the deficit and for lacking green energy provisions, a key interest of his given Tesla’s reliance on environmental subsidies.

Trump Responds: “Elon May Get More Subsidy Than Anyone in History”

Trump lashed out in response on Truth Social, suggesting Musk’s businesses — Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink — have heavily benefited from federal support.

“Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,” Trump wrote, adding that Doge may now investigate subsidies tied to Musk’s companies.

Can Musk’s ‘America Party’ Break the Mold?

While third parties have historically struggled to gain traction in U.S. elections, Musk’s enormous platform, resources, and outsider image may energize disillusioned voters.

Still, experts caution that structural barriers — including ballot access laws, lack of media coverage, and political polarization — make it extremely difficult for new parties to pose a credible threat to Democrats or Republicans at the national level.

In last year’s presidential election, candidates from the Libertarian, Green, and People’s Party failed to make a dent, as the contest ultimately came down to Trump and Kamala Harris.

What’s Next?

As of now, the America Party has not filed with the FEC, and no clear platform or candidate strategy has been outlined. Musk has not confirmed whether he intends to run for office himself.

Political analysts are closely watching what could be the most ambitious third-party effort in recent U.S. history — and one that could dramatically alter the dynamics of the 2028 election cycle.
