The Actress and Model Reveals Emotional Childhood Response to Her Father’s Iconic Film

May 26, 2025 — Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of acclaimed actor Johnny Depp, has opened up about her emotional reaction to one of her father’s most iconic roles, admitting that it left a lasting impact on her as a child.

Though a self-proclaimed fan of her father’s work, the 26-year-old actress revealed that she was deeply affected by his portrayal of the gentle and misunderstood Edward in Tim Burton’s 1990 fantasy classic Edward Scissorhands. The film, often cited as one of Johnny Depp’s most notable performances, tells the story of an artificial man with scissors for hands who struggles to fit into society.

In a recent interview, Lily-Rose confessed that watching the film as a child was a difficult experience.

“It traumatized me,” she said. “Not because he scared me, but because everyone was mean to him and that made me very angry.”

She elaborated on the emotional confusion she felt during those early years.

“It’s a difficult memory from my childhood, and that’s kind of weird because I don’t have a lot of memories from when I was that young.”

From Childhood Memory to Rising Star

Despite the emotional impact of Edward Scissorhands, Lily-Rose has forged a successful path in the entertainment industry, initially rising to fame as a fashion model before transitioning into acting.

Her recent work includes a role in Nosferatu, a highly anticipated horror film directed by Robert Eggers. The film marks a significant step in her growing acting career, showcasing her range and establishing her as more than just a celebrity offspring.

A Unique Perspective on Stardom

Lily-Rose’s candid remarks offer a rare glimpse into the personal side of growing up with a globally recognized parent. While many celebrate Edward Scissorhands as a cinematic masterpiece, for Lily-Rose, it represents a more complicated and emotional piece of her childhood.

Even so, her admiration for her father remains strong. Though she may avoid rewatching Edward Scissorhands, her respect for Johnny Depp’s work — and the emotional weight it carries — underscores the unique experience of growing up in the shadow of an icon.
