Authorities Issue Red Alerts in Gansu and Liaoning Provinces
Northern and western regions of China remain on high alert as relentless torrential rains sweep across large swathes of the country. On Thursday, the China Meteorological Administration issued red alerts—the highest level in China’s four-tier warning system—as severe rainfall made its way into Gansu province in the northwest and further northeast to Liaoning province.

The alerts warn of dangerous weather conditions likely to result in flash floods, landslides, and infrastructure damage, particularly in mountainous and low-lying areas. Emergency response teams have been dispatched in advance to high-risk zones to mitigate disaster impact and coordinate possible evacuations.

Recent Floods Leave Trail of Death and Destruction
The warnings follow a week of deadly weather events across China. Recent flooding in central and southern provinces resulted in dozens of deaths and widespread displacement. Many regions reported washed-out roads, collapsed homes, and stranded communities as emergency services struggled to keep up with the scale of destruction.

Officials say the risk of further fatalities remains high unless residents adhere to evacuation orders and avoid traveling in affected areas.

Infrastructure Under Pressure as Water Levels Rise
Flood control authorities report rapidly rising water levels in major rivers and reservoirs, increasing the pressure on flood defense infrastructure. In some regions, emergency dams and drainage systems are being reinforced to prevent potential breaches.

Local governments have issued advisories urging residents to stock up on supplies, stay indoors, and monitor official updates. Schools and businesses in particularly vulnerable areas have been temporarily closed.

Climate Experts Warn of Intensifying Weather Patterns
Meteorologists say the ongoing heavy rain is part of an increasingly volatile weather pattern, driven by a combination of climate change and seasonal monsoon conditions. The frequency and intensity of such extreme weather events have been rising in recent years, posing long-term challenges for disaster preparedness and urban planning in China’s vast and varied terrain.

Government Mobilizes National Emergency Response
The central government has pledged all necessary support to affected regions, deploying rescue teams, military personnel, and disaster relief supplies. Prime Minister Li Qiang called for coordinated national efforts to ensure public safety, especially in remote and mountainous areas where communication lines are easily cut during storms.

As China braces for further downpours in the coming days, citizens are being reminded to prioritize safety and follow all instructions issued by local authorities.
