Zurich, July 4, 2025 — Zurich Insurance Group has acquired Toronto-based BOXX Insurance, a fast-growing managing general agent (MGA) specializing in cyber insurance and digital security solutions for retail and SME clients. The acquisition strengthens Zurich’s growing tech-enabled ecosystem and expands its footprint in the cyber protection market.

Strategic Expansion of Zurich Global Ventures

The acquisition is a milestone for Zurich Global Ventures, the business unit tasked with growing Zurich’s global digital and technology partnerships across sectors including cyber, travel, health, and wellbeing.

Zurich and BOXX have worked closely since 2021, when Zurich first partnered with the Canadian insurtech to explore cyber protection solutions. This acquisition formalizes their relationship and integrates BOXX’s innovative offerings into Zurich’s broader digital strategy.

BOXX: Blending Insurance With Cybersecurity Tools

Founded in 2018, BOXX Insurance delivers bundled cyber protection solutions that combine insurance coverage with proactive digital safety tools such as virtual private networks (VPNs), secure browsing features, password management, and dark web monitoring. This dual approach helps clients not only recover from cyber incidents but also prevent them.

BOXX has raised $24.3 million to date across two funding rounds, both led by Zurich — a testament to the strategic alignment and confidence Zurich has in BOXX’s long-term potential.

A Global Footprint With Local Expertise

BOXX’s most recent initiative with Zurich saw the launch of its cyber protection app in Switzerland. The multilingual platform, available in English, German, French, and Italian, allows users to actively monitor and improve their digital safety in real-time — a key part of Zurich’s customer-first approach to cyber risk.

A Growing Market for Cyber Protection

As cyber threats continue to rise globally, insurance companies are looking for integrated solutions that go beyond traditional indemnity. Zurich’s acquisition of BOXX reflects the insurer’s commitment to staying at the forefront of this evolving space by delivering both financial and technological protection.

“Cybersecurity is no longer optional — it’s essential,” said a Zurich spokesperson. “By bringing BOXX into the Zurich family, we’re offering our clients smart, accessible, and comprehensive solutions that address today’s digital threats.”

With BOXX now under the Zurich umbrella, the global insurer is well-positioned to drive innovation and deliver next-generation cyber protection to individuals and businesses alike.
