One-armed golfer shares emotional reaction to winning prestigious world championship title

Mark Marshall, a one-armed golfer from Nottinghamshire, is capturing hearts and headlines after being crowned the one-armed golf world champion — a title that adds genuine merit to his nickname likening him to Spanish golf star Jon Rahm.
Marshall, who lost his right hand and much of his forearm in a workplace accident involving a wood processing machine over ten years ago, has since defied expectations to rise to the top of the one-armed golfing world. His recent triumph at Cleveland Golf Club in North East England marked a deeply emotional victory.
“It means a hell of a lot, I cried — there were a lot of emotions,” Marshall shared, reflecting on the win. His tears carried the weight of more than just sporting achievement. Just a year before claiming the world title, Marshall suffered the devastating loss of his partner of 13 years, Emily Rose, who was also the mother of their young daughter, Elle.
Now a single father raising his three-year-old daughter, Marshall has faced immense challenges with unyielding resilience and grace. His caddy and close friend of six years, Wayne Albans, spoke of the golfer’s incredible strength. “I didn’t know him when he had both arms, but what he’s overcome — I honestly don’t know how he’s done it,” Albans said. “Losing his partner was incredibly hard, and now he’s raising his daughter on his own. I take my hat off to him.”
Marshall attributes his perseverance and positive outlook to the strong network of support surrounding him. “Having family, friends, and good people close by has made all the difference,” he explained. “I’ve got a positive mindset, and I really don’t think anything can stop me.”
His story has not only inspired fellow golfers but has also resonated far beyond the golf course. With remarkable skill, an indomitable spirit, and a commitment to keep moving forward, Mark Marshall is redefining what it means to be a champion — both in sport and in life.
