After years of requests from its community, Notion has officially introduced offline mode across its desktop and mobile apps. The feature allows users to view, edit, and create notes without an internet connection, solving one of the most persistent frustrations with the popular productivity platform.

With the new update, pages can be downloaded for offline use, making it possible to keep working anywhere—even without Wi-Fi or mobile data. Once the device reconnects, all edits are automatically synced to the cloud.

However, Notion clarified that certain elements like embeds, forms, and buttons will not function offline.

Premium Users Get Enhanced Offline Features

Subscribers of Notion Plus, Business, and Enterprise plans gain additional benefits. Their apps will automatically download frequently accessed and favorited pages, ensuring they’re always available offline. Users can adjust this under the new “Offline” settings menu, where they can disable auto-downloads or manage specific pages.

Behind the Delay: Technical Challenges

Notion CEO Ivan Zhao explained on X that building offline mode took longer than expected due to the platform’s complex database architecture. The team had to design a conflict-resolution system to handle situations where multiple collaborators make offline edits to the same document.
