Jo Williams Appointed Chief Executive Across Shropshire Health Trusts
Shropshire, UK — Jo Williams has been named the new chief executive in common for both the Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust (ShropCom) and the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH), in a move aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving services across the county.
Currently serving as the interim CEO at SaTH, Williams will officially step into her new dual-role position on 1 September 2025.
A Strategic Appointment to Unite Services
Andrew Morgan, Chair in Common for both NHS trusts, expressed confidence in the decision, stating:
“I am delighted Jo has been appointed into this exciting new role; this is a fantastic opportunity to accelerate the good work happening between the trusts.”
The leadership change marks a significant step towards deeper integration, although the two organisations will continue to operate as separate statutory bodies, each maintaining their own governance structure but now led by a shared CEO and Chair.
A Proven NHS Leader
Before joining SaTH on secondment in September 2024, Williams was the chief executive of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) in Birmingham. Her tenure at SaTH as interim CEO has already had a marked impact on service delivery and leadership culture.
“Jo brings extensive strategic and operational leadership experience with a strong track record in driving quality and performance improvement in the NHS,” said Mr Morgan.
“She has already made a positive difference in her 10 months at SaTH and I know she has the ability, ambition, determination and compassion to drive forward excellent care for all the communities we serve.”
Transition Planning Underway at ROH
As Williams prepares to take on her expanded role, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is beginning the recruitment process to appoint a new permanent CEO. Matthew Hartland, who has been serving as interim CEO since October 2024, will continue in his role until a successor is named.
Looking Ahead
The joint appointment is expected to boost cooperation and create stronger, more cohesive healthcare delivery across hospital and community settings in Shropshire. The strategic move reflects a growing trend in NHS leadership aimed at improving patient experience and operational efficiency through unified leadership models.
The trusts say the shared leadership model will help align services more effectively while maintaining their commitment to quality, performance, and patient-focused care.
