Recovery College Launches Open Days to Promote Mental Health Education

Oldbury, UK — The Recovery College, a pioneering mental health-focused educational institution, is set to hold open days throughout August at its newly expanded sites across the Black Country. The events aim to give the public, prospective students, and healthcare professionals a deeper insight into the college’s unique approach to mental health support through education.

Expanding Reach Across the Region

Originally based at Quayside House in Oldbury, the Recovery College—run by the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust—extended its services in late 2023 with the opening of new branches in Dudley, Walsall, and Wolverhampton. These additional locations have been introduced to better serve communities across the Black Country and provide accessible mental health education and support.

Empowering Through Education

The Recovery College offers a supportive learning environment for individuals who are experiencing mental health challenges, as well as for those simply interested in learning more about mental health and wellbeing. By using an educational and collaborative approach, the college empowers students to focus on recovery, build confidence, and reconnect with their strengths and aspirations.

Open days are being organized at each new site and will include presentations, interactive sessions, and opportunities to speak with staff and current students. Attendees will be able to explore the college’s recovery-focused educational programmes, learn about course content, and understand how these initiatives support mental wellness.

Innovative Programmes That Make a Difference

Earlier this year, the college ran a six-week programme aimed at helping young men tackle mental health issues through music. The course was designed to engage participants creatively while encouraging self-expression and emotional healing.

This programme reflects the college’s broader mission to deliver inclusive, creative, and person-centred learning experiences. The courses cover a wide range of topics, from mindfulness and coping strategies to confidence building and community engagement.

Building a Supportive Community

Principal Kerry Wilkes expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming events, stating:

“We look forward to welcoming everyone and showcasing how our educational approach can make a positive impact on mental health and well-being. Our goal is to highlight the strengths and capabilities of each individual and foster a supportive community of learners.”

By inviting the public and professionals to learn more about its services, the college hopes to break down stigma and encourage more people to access mental health support through learning.
