Pakistan Set to Launch Remote Sensing Satellite Today with China’s Support and Collaboration

Pakistan is set to launch a new remote sensing satellite today from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center between 6:30 am and 7:15 am (Pakistan Standard Time), according to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO).

The satellite is intended for earth observation and scientific research. It will play a vital role in monitoring natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, glacier melting, and deforestation. This advancement is expected to significantly enhance Pakistan’s ability to issue early warnings and respond more effectively to emergencies.

Beyond disaster management, the satellite will also support agricultural analysis, urban development, infrastructure planning, and the mapping of transportation systems. It will further assist in tracking environmental changes and contribute to national projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) by identifying geographical risks and improving resource management.

SUPARCO noted that the satellite launch is in line with Pakistan’s National Space Policy and Vision 2047 strategy, which aims to transform the country into a technologically advanced nation through space innovation.

Meanwhile, India’s space agency, ISRO, successfully launched its own satellite, “NISAR”, from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota on Wednesday evening. NISAR is focused on studying ecosystems, climate behavior, and natural disasters.

SUPARCO emphasized that Pakistan’s satellite launch marks a significant step in expanding its research-based satellite capabilities and reflects its commitment to peaceful use of space and technological progress.
