India has sent three separate flood warnings to Pakistan within a span of two days, raising alarms across northern and central regions. Severe flooding has already caused widespread destruction in Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab, damaging crops, displacing families, and cutting off key road links.
Gilgit-Baltistan: 3,000 Residents Stranded After Bridge Collapse
In Gilgit-Baltistan’s Ghizer district, more than 3,000 residents of Dain remain stranded after floods swept away an old bridge. Authorities are currently relying on temporary boats to transport food, medicine, and stranded residents.
According to GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, the reconstruction of a permanent RCC bridge in Dain will require federal government assistance.
Talidas: Families Displaced, Relief Camps Established
In Talidas, hundreds of families have been displaced by flash floods. Relief camps are providing tents, clean drinking water, and partial electricity, while efforts are underway to reconnect power lines and restore communication.
The floods also created an artificial lake in Talidas, but officials confirmed that water levels are now receding, reducing the immediate threat to nearby areas. However, the loss of the Dain bridge remains a major obstacle for the region’s connectivity.
Punjab on High Alert: PDMA Issues Flood Warning
Meanwhile, in Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fresh flood alert. The next 48 hours are expected to bring high to very high flood risks in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, along with possible urban flooding in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Gujranwala.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and key departments—including agriculture, irrigation, health, livestock, and transport—have been placed on alert. Rescue teams have been pre-deployed in vulnerable locations on the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister.
Crops and Farmland Severely Damaged
Flooding has also caused significant destruction of sugarcane and other seasonal crops, adding to the economic strain on farming communities already struggling with heavy monsoon rains.
