Lahore — The flood situation in Punjab, Pakistan, worsened on Sunday after India released additional water into the Sutlej River, raising fears of a new and powerful flood wave across vulnerable districts. Floodwaters are expected to reach Guddu Barrage in Sindh within three days, raising further concerns downstream.

Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rains lashed Islamabad and Rawalpindi, swelling Nullah Lai and raising the risk of flash floods. The Rawal Dam has once again reached maximum capacity, forcing authorities to open spillways and issue alarms.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) cautioned residents in low-lying areas of the twin cities about possible urban flooding due to continuous downpours.
