Lamine Yamal faces investigation following controversy surrounding alleged comments on dwarfism.

Spanish Ministry Requests Investigation Into Discrimination Allegations

Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights has formally requested that the country’s prosecutor’s office launch an investigation into Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal following serious allegations linked to his 18th birthday celebration. Reports claim that the footballer hired individuals with dwarfism to perform at the private event—an act that has been labeled “unacceptable” by disability rights groups.

The party was reportedly held on Sunday in Olivella, a town about 50 kilometers northwest of Barcelona, and included a guest list featuring YouTubers, social media influencers, and several FC Barcelona teammates.

ADEE Condemns Use of Dwarfism for Entertainment

The Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE) strongly condemned the reported entertainment choices, calling them a violation of human dignity and an outdated form of mockery.

In an official complaint, ADEE argued that using people with dwarfism for entertainment perpetuates harmful stereotypes, contributes to systemic discrimination, and breaches modern ethical standards. They highlighted that such acts may violate disability rights laws in Spain.

Quoting legal language, the group said:

“Shows or recreational activities in which people with disabilities or other circumstances are used to provoke mockery, ridicule, or derision from the public in a manner contrary to the respect due to human dignity are prohibited.”

Ministry Cites Human Rights and Legal Concerns

In response to ADEE’s complaint, the Ministry of Social Rights took swift action by asking prosecutors to evaluate whether any legal breaches occurred during the celebration. Their primary concern is whether human rights or anti-discrimination laws were infringed and whether the dignity of those involved was compromised.

Performer Defends Party and Dismisses Claims of Exploitation

Contrary to the criticism, a performer who claims to have worked at the party gave an interview to Spanish radio station RAC1, defending both the event and Lamine Yamal.

The entertainer, who remained anonymous, stated:

“No one disrespected us. We worked peacefully. We are normal people who choose this work, and it’s legal.”

They went on to describe the hour-long performance, which included dancing, serving drinks, and magic tricks. Emphasizing their autonomy, the performer added:

“We know our limits and we never cross them—we are not fairground monkeys.”

FC Barcelona Maintains Neutral Stance

When asked to comment, FC Barcelona stated that they were “not in a position to comment on an act that falls strictly within the private sphere.” However, the club noted it may reassess its position once more details become available.
