Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall Set to Join Everton in £28 Million Deal

Everton and Chelsea Reach Agreement

Everton have agreed a deal worth up to £28 million to sign Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The agreement includes an initial payment of £24 million, with a further £3–4 million in add-ons based on performance targets. The 26-year-old is now expected to complete his medical and finalize personal terms, despite Fulham expressing late interest.

Dewsbury-Hall’s Mixed Chelsea Spell

Dewsbury-Hall joined Chelsea from Leicester City for £30 million in 2024, reuniting with former boss Enzo Maresca. Although he showed promise—particularly in cup competitions—his Premier League involvement was limited. He made just two league starts due to stiff competition from Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Romeo Lavia.

Still, the midfielder made valuable contributions, scoring four goals in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League-winning campaign and assisting in the final against Real Betis. He also scored in the Club World Cup semi-final versus Benfica and played in the final win over PSG.

Despite adapting to Chelsea’s tactical system, he struggled to cement a regular starting role, reflecting the club’s high player turnover in recent seasons.

Chelsea’s Transfer Strategy and Financial Imperatives

Chelsea were open to Dewsbury-Hall’s departure to recover most of their initial investment and ease financial pressures. The club is under scrutiny to meet UEFA’s financial control regulations and must ensure a positive transfer balance to register new signings—Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, and Liam Delap—for Champions League play in September.

In line with this, midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu is moving to Burnley, while striker Armando Broja is in advanced talks to follow. Borussia Dortmund have also reopened discussions for Carney Chukwuemeka.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have signed young Dutch defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax and are pursuing Netherlands international Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig to strengthen the midfield.

Everton’s Broader Transfer Activity

Everton’s pursuit of Dewsbury-Hall signals their intent to strengthen under manager David Moyes. In addition, the club is negotiating with Southampton for 19-year-old winger Tyler Dibling. However, Everton may back out if the Saints refuse to lower their valuation after rejecting two bids.

Moyes acknowledged that signings are close: “I think there’ll be deals next week… We’ve got to get some things done.”
