Fans Feel Misled by London’s Elvis Immersive Experience Promising Holograms and AI

Disappointment for Attendees of ‘Elvis Evolution’

A number of fans who attended the highly anticipated Elvis Evolution immersive experience in London have expressed frustration and disappointment, claiming the show did not deliver what was originally promised. One attendee told the BBC it was “one of the most misleading shows I’ve ever seen,” citing the lack of a holographic Elvis performance as a key letdown.

Expectations Built on AI and Hologram Hype

When the event was first announced in January 2024, creators Layered Reality advertised it as a revolutionary concert that would use AI technology and holographic projections to bring Elvis Presley back to life on a UK stage. Promotional materials described a “life-sized digital Elvis” performing iconic moments in music history.

However, those who bought tickets — which ranged from £75 to £300 — were met with a different reality. Several said there was no hologram at all, leading to feelings of being “conned” and mis-sold.”

Creators Defend Creative Direction

In response, a Layered Reality spokesperson acknowledged that “a small number of people” expected a hologram concert based on the initial concept shared in January 2024. However, they noted that the show’s concept evolved before ticket sales began in October 2024, and that shift was clearly communicated.

“We ultimately took the creative decision not to mimic Elvis’s performances,” the company explained. “Those moments proved to be too iconic and irreplaceable. Instead, we use AI to upscale archive footage, and in moments where no footage existed, we reconstructed events to offer a new lens into his world.”

Mixed Reactions from the Public

Despite the backlash, the production company insists that the overall reception has been largely positive. They say they have been “overwhelmed by the feedback,” with many attendees calling the show fun, immersive, and unlike anything they’ve seen before.

Still, the controversy underscores the risks of marketing high-tech experiences with buzzwords like AI and holograms, which can easily create inflated expectations among fans — particularly when it comes to a cultural icon as beloved and scrutinized as Elvis Presley.
