Punjab is set to witness a major leap in electric vehicle (EV) production as China’s Letin Auto Group announced plans to establish a small EV manufacturing plant in Lahore. The move is expected to boost local industry, create jobs, and strengthen Pakistan’s journey toward clean and sustainable mobility.
A 15-member delegation led by General Manager Xu Zhen of Letin Auto met with Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain in Lahore to finalize discussions on the project. Talks centered on the project roadmap, investment opportunities, and government support.
Minister Shafay Hussain assured full cooperation, highlighting the advantages of Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Incentives include a 10-year income tax exemption and duty-free imports of machinery, making Punjab a favorable destination for EV investment.
The minister emphasized that the initiative will not only promote green transportation but also generate employment and drive economic growth in the province.
Letin Auto, also known as Levdeo Automobile Group, faced bankruptcy challenges in 2023 but restructured successfully in 2024. Now, the company is targeting international opportunities, with Pakistan emerging as a key market due to favorable government policies and lower U.S. tariffs on Pakistani exports (around 19 percent).
The announcement follows increased interest from other global automakers including BYD, Changan, and MG, who are also exploring Pakistan’s growing EV sector. Rising fuel costs, supportive EV policies, and a strong push for clean energy solutions are making Pakistan an attractive EV hub.
