Crawley Guides Superchargers to Victory Over Spirit at Lord’s
Superchargers Reclaim Top-Three Spot
Zak Crawley produced another fine innings as Northern Superchargers sealed an eight-wicket victory over London Spirit at Lord’s, moving back into the top three of The Hundred men’s standings.
Earlier in the day, Southern Brave’s narrow win over Welsh Fire had briefly pushed Superchargers down to fourth, but they responded strongly, chasing 136 with 18 balls to spare.
Crawley Shines With Match-Winning Knock
Crawley anchored the chase with an unbeaten 55 off 39 balls, his second half-century of the tournament. He built valuable partnerships of 63 with Dawid Malan and 56 with Dan Lawrence.
The England opener was aggressive from the outset, hitting four boundaries in the opening over and clearing the ropes twice. His innings also took him to the top of the tournament’s run-scoring charts.
Speaking about his approach, Crawley explained that adapting from red-ball cricket by seeking more scoring opportunities had been key to his success.
Spirit Struggle to Accelerate
Batting first on a slow surface, London Spirit reached 135-3. England star Ollie Pope top-scored with 52 not out from 38 deliveries, while Jamie Smith hit 28 with four fours and a six.
However, the innings lost momentum, with only one boundary struck in the final 33 balls. Despite being led by captain Harry Brook and coached by Andrew Flintoff, Spirit’s inability to accelerate left them short of a competitive total.
Qualification Still Possible for Spirit
The defeat leaves London Spirit’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread. They must win their two remaining matches and rely on other results to have a chance of finishing in the top three.
Meanwhile, Superchargers will next face league leaders Oval Invincibles at Headingley in what promises to be a key clash in the playoff race.
